Hemp Fiber Market Growth Accelerates with Rising Demand for Sustainable Natural Fibers
The growing movement toward sustainable fashion is creating new opportunities for natural fibers and supporting expansion of the hemp fiber market. Hemp has traditionally been used for durable fabrics, but improvements in processing and finishing technologies are enabling its application in softer and more versatile textile products. MRFR estimates that the global market will increase from USD 9.82 billion in 2025 to USD 21.83 billion by 2035 at an 8.32% CAGR.
Textiles represent the largest application for hemp fiber. Fashion brands and textile manufacturers are increasingly examining natural materials as consumers become more aware of environmental issues associated with conventional fibers. Hemp provides durability, breathability, and biodegradability, making it relevant to apparel, home textiles, technical fabrics, and accessories.
Textile grade hemp fiber is the fastest-growing grade segment. MRFR projects this segment to increase from USD 4.531 billion in 2024 to USD 10.92 billion by 2035. Improvements in processing technologies are helping producers create fibers suitable for higher-value textile applications.
Retting remains the dominant processing method because it is an established approach for separating fibers from hemp stalks. However, mechanical processing is gaining traction as manufacturers invest in more efficient and technologically advanced fiber extraction systems. Pulping also offers opportunities for producing materials suitable for paper, packaging, and other applications.
The industry's development is not limited to fashion. Biocomposites are the fastest-growing application, reflecting increasing interest from automotive and industrial manufacturers. Hemp-based composites can provide lightweight and durable material options for vehicle interiors and other components.
North America currently holds approximately 45% of the global market. Europe accounts for around 30% and benefits from demand for sustainable products and environmental policies. Asia-Pacific represents approximately 20% and is developing as a major hemp production and manufacturing region.
Regulatory support is also influencing the supply chain by encouraging cultivation and processing in selected markets. As hemp farming, fiber processing, textile manufacturing, and sustainable product development become more integrated, the industry is expected to benefit from growing demand for environmentally responsible materials.
